Monash University Overview
Monash University is a public institution founded in 1958. Based in Victoria, southeastern Australia, it’s named after Sir John Monash, a renowned Australian military leader and engineer. The Clayton campus, the largest of the university’s five Australian locations, sits about 12 miles southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital. Monash also has a branch campus in Malaysia, a joint graduate school in China with Southeast University, and several other international affiliates. With students from over 100 countries, Monash welcomes a diverse community. While international students pay higher tuition, scholarships are available. On-campus housing is offered at three of its Australian campuses.

Classes at Monash are taught in English, and the academic year follows a semester system. Undergraduates can join honors programs, which add a fourth year heavily focused on research. In Australia, a bachelor honors degree is considered a higher qualification than a standard bachelor’s. Monash has student-exchange partnerships with over 100 universities across 25+ countries.
