Tsinghua University Overview
Tsinghua University is a public university in northwest Beijing, China, with a history dating back to 1911. While most courses are taught in Chinese, the university also offers select graduate programs in English. These include master’s programs in fields like Chinese politics, foreign policy and international relations, mechanical engineering, and global business journalism, among others. Tuition fees differ depending on the program and language of instruction.
The university welcomes international students from over 100 countries, with the majority coming from Asia. In a recent year, 41% of non-Chinese students were undergraduates, 29% were master’s students, 9% were doctoral candidates, and the rest were enrolled in short-term programs. On-campus housing is available for both undergrad and graduate students.
Tsinghua is home to a wide range of schools and departments, covering disciplines like science, engineering, literature, arts, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education, and medicine. Undergraduates can choose from more than 70 degree programs, while master’s and doctoral candidates have even more options. The university also boasts over 300 research centers, including the Tsinghua National Laboratory for Information Science and Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Precision Measuring Technology and Instruments, and the National Engineering Laboratory for Digital Television.
Beyond academics, students can join around 200 clubs and organizations, such as the Zijing Volunteer Service and the Students’ Performing Arts Club.
